IAESTE Japan TOUR in November
Hello, this is IAESTE TLSC??
Autumn in Japan is clearly one of the most beautiful things you can experience in the whole world. The leaves change their color from energetic green to gorgeous yet sorrowful red or yellow. This natural phenomenon is called “koyo” in Japanese, while “ko” means red and “yo” means a leaf, in English it is simply called “autumn colours.”
There are innumerable places that are famous for their autumn colours. In this post, you can check the starter set of places (in our personal preference) to enjoy koyo around Tokyo, thinking of half/one day trip!
①Oyama Afuri Shrine
This shrine stands in Isehara, Kanagawa. Taking a bus from Isehara Station on Odakyu line, then 6 mins cable car ride brings you up to the shrine, waiting with beautiful red momiji. Peak season there is on the second half of November, and you can enjoy autumn colour even with light up. Momiji tunnel on the approach stairs is a must-visit!
②Mt. Takao
Mt. Takao is a popular mountain located in Hachioji, Tokyo. Many tourists visit on holidays. The elevation of the mountain is 599 meters. At the foot of the mountain, there is a museum called the "599 Museum" that is related to Mt.
Visitors can take a lift to the halfway up the mountain. While riding the lift, you can enjoy the autumn leaves on both sides of the mountain until early December!
③Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Avenue
In the downtown of Tokyo, this avenue is one of the famous places for its 300m long yellow street. Since Ginkgo leaves fall quick just in one day, you can walk on the yellow carpet. Easy access from Gaien-mae station on Ginza line. “Icho Festival” is held there, grab a hot drink and ready to enjoy the nature’s magic!
Autumn in Japan will show you different colors in every different places. We hope you can find your favorite!
